Chapter Nine

Lyrics: Simple Plan

I open my eyes I try to see but I’m blinded by the white light I can’t remember how I can’t remember why I’m lying here run The I can’t stand the pain And I can’t make it go away No I can’t stand the painHow could this happen to meI made my mistakes Ive got no where to runThe night goes onAs I’m fading away I’m sick of this life I just wanna screamHow could this happen to meEverybody’s screamingI try to make a sound but no one hears meI’m slipping off the edgeI’m hanging by a threadI wanna start this over again So I try to hold onto a time when nothing matteredAnd I can’t explain what happened And I can’t erase the things that I’ve doneNo I can’tHow could this happen to meI made my mistakes Ive got no where to runThe night goes onAs I’m fading awayI’m sick of this lifeI just wanna screamHow could this happen to meI made my mistakesIve got no where to runThe night goes onAs I’m fading awayI’m sick of this lifeI just wanna screamHow could this happen to me-Untitled

This song i felt related to chapter nine the best because it talks about in the book that Gatsby and myrtle get murdered. This song talks about dieing and how they wish they could just go back and do things differently this time around. I felt that if Gatsby and Myrtle had the chance to live again they would change their prospectives big time. They would realize that it's not all about money and what ever makes them happy go for it. In the song it talks about the pain they go through and how there looking around but no one is there to help. Also that they yell for help but no one can hear them. I felt that this could be relevant to Gatsby feelings when he gets murder by Mr.Wilson.

Quotes:

  1. "But as they drew back the sheet and looked at Gatsby with unmoved eyes, his protest continued in my brain"(173). This quote relates tot he text because it explains that Gatsby is officially passed away. All through out the chapter they talk about Gatsby's death and his funeral. So i felt that this quote which is describing him to be expired was relevant because that's when you know that it's official and a serious situation.

  2. "....Perhaps a detective, used the expression "mad man" as he bent over Wilson's body that afternoon....."(171). This quote relates tot he text because it shows that Mr.Wilson was the killer of Gatsby. You know it is Mr.Wilson because when the detective leans over him and says "mad man" he is refraining Mr.Wilson. He felt he was a "mad man" because he murder a man and then killed himself in the process. This is a good quote for this chapter because we find out just how twisted and wound up people are on the "eggs".

  3. "Gatsby's wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy's dock....his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. He did not know that it was already behind him" (182). this quote is said by Nick talking about Gatsby. Gatsby didn't realize that he could never actually get Daisy and now he is very disappointed that he cant.

  4. 'When a man gets killed I never like to get mixed up in it in any way. I keep out. When I was a young man it was different...I stuck with them to the end...Let us learn to show friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead....'" This quote is said by he is describing how we should show the friendship to people when they are alive and not when they end up passing away.

Theme

The main theme of this chapter is money cannot buy happiness. All through Gatsby's life he was known for his wealth and his extraordinary parties that would happen every week. Hundreds of people would show up to these parties in all directions. Though he had money there was one thing that the money couldn't get him. And this was his love of his life Daisy. he tried and tried to get her and he thought that his money would make him able to get her but little did he know. At the end of the novel Gatsby is shot and killed by Wison. Wilson thought that Gatsby killed Myrtle with the car but the fact is Daisy did. Days after his funeral is held Nick tries to call all of Gatsby's friends but no one answers or they cannot attend. The funeral was suspected to be huge because of all Gatsby's acquaintances but this goes to prove to you that people were just using him for his money and didn't actually care for him. This goes to prove to you that in the long run money cannot buy happiness.

Chapter Eight

Song Lyric: Kid Rock and Faith Hill

Livin' my life in a slow hell Different girl every night at the hotel I ain't seen the sun shine in 3 damn days Been fuelin' up on cocaine and whisky Wish I had a good girl to miss me Lord I wonder if I'll ever change my ways I put your picture away Sat down and cried todayI can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to her I put your picture away, sat down and cried today I can't look at you, while I'm lyin next to her[Sherly Crow]I called you last night in the hotel Everyone knows but they wont tell But their half hearted smiles tell me Somethin' just ain't right I been waitin' on you for a long time Fuelin' up on heartaches and cheap wine I ain't heard from you in 3 damn nights I put your picture away I wonder where you been I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to him I put your picture away I wonder where you been I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to him I saw ya yesterday with an old friend [Kid Rock]It was the same ole same "how have you been" [Both]Since you been gone my worlds been dark & grey [Kid Rock]You reminded me of brighter days [Sheryl Crow]I hoped you were comin' home to stay I was headed to church[Kid Rock]I was off to drink you away [Both]I thought about you for a long time Can't seem to get you off my mind I can't understand why we're living life this way I found your picture today I swear I'll change my ways I just called to say I want you to come back home I found your picture today I swear I'll change my ways I just called to say I want you to come back home I just called to say, I love you come back home-Picture

This lyric relates to the chapter because through out chapter eight Gatsby talks about how he can't leave Daisy behind. Nick suggest that he should move and lay low but won't because his love for Daisy is to strong to live without. This song is saying that your on my mind all the time both good and bad thoughts. But they are over all the drama and finally is putting there picture away for good to stop thinking of them. As times goes on though they realize they need each other and even though they put it away. But they still care for each other they realize even after they try to forget about each other does not mean there done. I felt this related perfect with Daisy and Gatsby because they can not live without each other but they can not deny there feelings for one another.

Quotes:

  1. "... Daisy a sense of security; he let her believe that he was a person from much the same strata as herself- that he was fully able to take care of her" (156). This is explaining how Gatsby would say and do anything for Daisy just so she would give him the time of day to show her how much he cared for her. This quote explains that she has no reason to be scared to think she would not be finical and physically secure with Gatsby. But he is saying here that she does not have to worry about that.

  2. "He found her excitingly desirable"(155). Although this quote is short is explains so much with Gatsby and his feelings toward Daisy. It shows that Gatsby needed her in his life as if she was an addiction to his heart. He could not be without her but he knows there is no way he can be with her.

  3. "But what gave it an air of breathless intensity was that Daisy lived there..."(155). This quote explains when he was in her house that it was beautiful, big, and more but the thing that made it vibe was that Daisy lived in it. The presence of Daisy by or around Gatsby makes him feel a burst of happiness which he wishes to crave the rest of his life with her.

  4. "It excited him too that many men had already loved Daisy-it increased her value in his eyes" (156). This quote shows that even though Daisy has and is loved by many other guys he does not care. All he cares about is that he has her attention now, the thought of the other guys just makes it a challenge for him. The challenge to gave the love, trust, and more of this one girl he has fallen for.

Summary:

The theme i felt that describe chapter eight the best would be love. The reason love is the theme of chapter eight is because it talks about Gatsby's feelings for Daisy. He can not be with her but can not live without her. Gatsby wants and needs to move but won't because Daisy can not go with him. Daisy has feelings for Gatsby but doesn't go with him because she is married to Tom and she thinks it just won't work out. She thinks it won't work out physically, emotionally, and financially so she makes the decision to stay with Tom even though she has fallen for Gatsby. As you can see they both have uncontrolled love for each other but are driven apart by unfortunate circumstances.

Chapter Seven

This is a picture of a vehicle speeding that is bound to hit something. In chapter seven Daisy and Gatsby struck Myrtle on the way home from the great city of New York. They fled from the scene of the accident. When Nick, Tom and Jordan are driving back to Long Island they discover this terrifying scene. Myrtle was the victim of this hit and run. A Greek man ran and told Wilson is the one that was hit. They find that a big yellow car hit Myrtle stopped and then sped away. This picture is of a person speeding that is going to hit someone just like how Daisy and Gatsby hit Myrtle on the way home from New York.

Quotes: Chapter Seven

"Daisy and Tom were sitting opposite each other at the kitchen table They weren't happy...yet they weren't unhappy either. There was an unmistakable air of natural intimacy about the picture, and anybody would have said that they were conspiring together" (146). This quote is about the tension that is between Tom and Gatsby it shows that they do not hate each other but they are very weary about each other. They arnt very fond of each other.

"[Daisy had] a hint of bedrooms upstairs more beautiful and cool than other bedrooms...of romances that were not musty and laid away already in lavender....It excited him, too, that many men had already loved Daisy - it increased her value in his eyes" (148) This quote is said by our narrator Nick. This quote describes how Tom sees Daisy's room and he admires it. He then realizes how many other guys have already loved her. This increased her value in the eyes of Tom.

"...there was no difference between men, in intelligence or race, so profound as the difference between the sick and the well. Wilson was so sick that he looked guilty" (124) This quote is about Nick. Nick is talking about how Wilson looks very guilty of something. He is judging Wilson even though he claims he doesn't.

"Daisy and Jordan lay upon an enormous couch like silver idols weighing down their own white dresses against the singing breeze of the fans"(115) This is what Nick observes at Gatsby's house. He is describing the elegance that he sees when he comes into the room. The elegance of Daisy and Jordan.

Analysis

In this chapter we began to see the tension between Tom and Gatsby really show. Tom is getting very aggravated with Gatsby because all the wants to do is rekindle his love for Daisy. Tom forces Daisy to say to Gatsby that she has never loved him. Tom reminds her that Daisy loves him and not Gatsby. When Gatsby and Daisy are coming home from the trip from New York Daisy strikes Myrtle with the car killing her. Gatsby takes the blame for this. This shows that he really loves her and cares a bout her. Tom is being a barrier from letting this happen he wants Daisy and will do anything to keep her with him. Gatsby has made some progress in hopes to get Daisy back in his life but not enough. At the end of the chapter Gatsby realizes that his dream is forever gone.

Chapter Six

This picture is a picture of a yacht and it is related to the chpater because we get a little info about Gatsby old jobs. Gatsby worked on a boat with a man named Cody. Cody owned the yacht and asked Gatsby if he wanted to make money and come work for him on his yacht. Gatsby agreed and they made a lot of money untill one day when Cody passewd away. When Cody passed away Gatsby was suppose to get 25,000 from his death but Cody's wife would not issue Gatsby the money. Ever since then Gatsby determined his life to making money and that influenced how he gets money now.

Quotes:

  1. "Then he drifted back to Lake Superior, and he was still searching for something to do on the day that Dan Cody's yacht dropped anchor in the shallows along shore"(105). This quote is said by Nick and he is talking about when Dan Cody showed up with his yacht. When he shows up he sees Gatsby and askes him if he wants to make money and he accepts. This is related tyo the chapter and is important because it shows us where Gatsby got his drive and ambiotions to making money.

  2. "I remember the portrait of him up in Gatsby's bedroom, a grey, florid man with a hard empty face..." (106). This quote shows that Gatsby and Cody were not just co-workers but they were best friends as well. Thius relates to the chpater and is important because none really knows what Gatsby does for money and how he has so much of it. The yacht business with Cody and him drove him to making money and such. The picture in his room shows he'll never forget who made him a rich man.

  3. "To young Gatz, resting on his oars and looking up at the railed deck, that yacht represented all the beauty and glamor in the world"(106). This is related to the chapter because it shows that he has a thing for money and the ocean. The reason this is is because he lives by the water side and has a great amount of money. Without Cody brining him on deck he would not feel this passion for money and the ocean.

  4. "He was employed in a vague personal capacity-while he remained with Cody he was in turn steward, mate, skipper, secretary and even jailor, for Dan Cody sober knew what lavish doing Dan Cody drunk might soon be about and he provided for such contingencies by reposing more and more trust in Gatsby" (106). This quote relates to chapter six because it shows how close they were. Everything Gatsby is driven for is because of Cody when he gave him that job.

Summary:

The main part of the chapter i felt was when they introduced us to the man who made Gatsby who he is now which is Dan Cody. He gave Gatsby the drive to make money and be happy the rest of his life. All because he gave him a job on his yacht where he showed him how to get money. They had such a bond that he was suppose to get 25,000 from Gatsby when he died but never received it because of his wife stubbornness. That shows how much Cody was really looking out for Gatsby. So friendship and trust were a big thing shown in this chapter six as they introduced Dan Cody.

Chapter Five

This picure is of Gatsby and Daisy's reunion that occurs in chapter five of the novel. At first this reuinion was very awkward, Gatsby almost htinks it was a mistake. They call in Klipsringer to play the piano. The love begans to be rekindled. At this point they completley forget that nick is even there. Nick quietly leaves. This picture depicts the love that Daisy and Gatsby now begen to share. This picture depics two people a male and female who seem to be in love. The red in the backround bring the love and romance into the picture. it seems that there is nothing else in the world but there love. They seem to be blocking out everything else in the world. Just like Daisy and Gatsby did in this chapter.

Quotes: Chapter Five

"If it wasn't for the mist we could see your home across the bay....You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock" (94). This quote is being said to Daisy. Daisy has a green light at the end of her dock. Gatsby always seems to stare and gaze at daisy's light at the end of her dock.

"Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes" (86). This quote is said by Daisy when she opened the door to the door bell ringing. At he door was Gatsby he seemed to be mad and upset looking into Daisy's eyes. Gatsby is uncertain about their love.

"This was a terrible mistake"(92). This quote is said by Gatsby he is speaking to Daisy he is telling her that he thinks this was a mistake. He is refering for falling for Daisy.

"I was in the drug business and then I was in the oil business but im not in either one now" (95). This quote is said by Gatsby. He is telling us what he had done previously for jobs. They thought Gatsby got all his money from inheritance. Gatsby tells them that he had jobs and that how he got some of his money also.

Symbolism:

The main symbolism in this chapter is through the weather. We began to see a pattern in the book. Anytime Gatsby is upset it begens to become really nastyy outside and rains. Gatsby's mood affects the weather in this novel. Whenever Gatsby is happy the weather will be dry and sunny. When Gatsbty is upset it will start to rain and sometimes even pour. On page 88 it is pouring rain, this is because Gatsby is about to see Daisy and he is scared and nervous. The weather mirrors his feelings. Then after a half hour on page 93 he has met with Daisey and things are going good. The sun begans to peak through because Gatsby is happy and enjoying the time that he is spending with Daisy. On page 99 the rain starts to fall again. the rain is falling this time because it is time for Daisy to leave. Gatsby's mood is not happy he is very sad that she is leaving. Again the rain is mirroring Gatsby's sadness. The main symbolisn in this chapter is the weather. The aurthor incorporated the rain and the sun to depict the moods of Gatsby. This also shows that Gatsby is a man of great power.

Chapter Four

Song: Rascal Flatts "my wish"
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,And each road leads you where you want to go,And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.And if one door opens to another door closed,I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,But more than anything, more than anything,My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,You never need to carry more than you can hold,And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,Yeah, this, is my wish.I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,All the ones who love you, in the place you left,I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,And you help somebody every chance you get,Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,And you always give more than you take. But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,You never need to carry more than you can hold,And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,Yeah, this, is my wish.My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,You never need to carry more than you can hold,And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,Yeah, this, is my wish. This is my wishI hope you know somebody loves youMay all your dreams stay big

This song relates to the text because throughout chapter four it shows how Daisy and Gatsby like eachother a lot. However, they can not be together because of Tom her husband. This song explains how much they like eachother but can not be together. But where ever and whoever they wind up up with they hope they are happy. That is how Gatsby and Daisy feel for eachother.

Qoutes:
  1. "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay" (83) This shows that he cares and likes this girl that much that he would move his house across from her to see her everyday. This reltes to the chapter because Gatsby likes Daisy alot and would do anything for her like moving across the street from her.
  2. "he wants to know... if you'll invite Daisy to your house some afternoon and then let him come over" (83) This is a plan that Gatsby had planned out for Nick to invite daisy and him over so they could be together without being known they are seeing eachother. This relates to the chapter and to the lyrics because the song explains how they will go to all ends to be with them and Gatsby is doing this for Daisy.
  3. "He's afraid. He's waited so long. He thought you might be offended. You see he's a regular tough underneath it all." (84) This is showing that he has been waiting along time to even just talk to the woman that's how much he likes her. The chapter and song is about the lust between two people who need eachother in their life and do not want to do anything to mess it up. This quote shows that he is careful with his decisions due to the negitive outcome to theirrelationship.
  4. "...unlike Gatsby and Tom Buchanan I had no girl whose disembodid face floated along the dark conices and blinding signs". (84) This is showing that Gatsby and Tom are in a feud with the same chick and it is obvious that both like her. But as you see throughout Gatsby and Tom's relationship with Daisy Gatsby knows he's the best guy for her and not Tom.

Summary:

The theme of this chapter would be love because it is clearly shown the passion and love that Gatsby has for Daisy. He can't be with her because she is married to Tom and he knows she deserves someone better. He feels like he is better man for her and can not live without her. But he knows they can not be and wants her to be happy and maybe in the future they would be together. The song relates to all this because it is talking about how the girl of their dreams is slipping away from them and they can't let that happen. But if it does they hope they just find happiness with whoever can give that to them. That is how Gatsby feels for Daisy he knows he can't be with her but he knows he can't live without her. Daisy feels the same and desperately wants to be with Gatsby and not Tom.

Chapter Three

Gatsby's Party
This picture illustatres what the night of one of Gatsby's party may have looked like. The image of the car seems to match the disciption iven by our narrator Nick. Chapter Three is when Nick goes to Gatsbys party for the first time. Nick got invited by Gatsby's chaufer. Nick feels very out of place at this party until he meets Jordan Baker. Nick spends most of the night with her. Gatsby's party seem to be filled with many weathly people. The image can give the reader the sense of luxury.

Quotes: Chapter 3

"I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited - they went there" (43). This quote is spoken by our narrator Nick. he says this when he goes to one of Gastby's mansion party's for the first time. Nick notices that

"[Gatsby's smile had] a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life....It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself"(48). This quote is again said by our narrator Nick. He is telling the reader how much of a great person Gatsby is and how powerful his smile is. Nick says it is vert comforting and understanding. Something that does not come around that much.

"I've been drunk for about a week now, and I thought it might sober me up to sit in a library" (48)
Said by a character named owl eyes that was introduced in this chapter. Again this shows you how muich of a good time people are having at Gatsby's parties. Owl eyes is very amazed that the books in Gatsby's library are real. this means that the is very weatly.

"I like to come, I never care what I do, so i always have a good time..."(47). This quote is said by Lucille. This shows the reader what kind of mood is set by Gatsby's parties. Lucille ripped her dress at one of the parties and Gatsby being the nice man that he is sent her a brand new one in the mail.

Theme

The main theme in this Chapter is Weatlh and Exaggeration. There are so many differant referances that lead you to belive that Gatsby is a truley wealth man. here are some examples that lead you to belive that Gatsby is a weatly man. He has 2 motor boats, rolls royce, eight servants, brall rails, a huge mansion, a personal gardener, oboes and trumbones, liquor and gin cordials, an orchastra, and many other things. This goes to show you that Gatsby is a very wealthy man. many epople could not afford any of there things that I have mentioned above. They esspecialy could'nt afford it in this time of the Jazz Age. Also in this chapter there are some examples that draw us to the theme of Exaggeration. This tends to spice up the chapter and make it a little more interesting. the aurthor uses many examples that are exagerations. An example is, the air is alive with chatter and laughter. this is refering to Gatsbys party. This is obviously an exageration because the air cannot physicaly be alive. Another example of exageration found in this chapter, the earth lurches away from the sun. This is describing how the night is coming upon the party. We all know that the earth doesnt lurch away from the sun. The earth is rotating around the sun causing us some darkness. And my last example, lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away. This is refering to the lights from Gatsby's party. These are all example of the theme that is evident in chapter three, Wealth and Exageration.

Chapter Two

Lonely Day
Such a lonely day And it's mine The most loneliest day in my life Such a lonely day Should be banned It's a day that I can't stand The most loneliest day of my life The most loneliest day of my life Such a lonely day Shouldn't exist It's a day that I'll never miss Such a lonely day And it's mine The most loneliest day of my life And if you go, I wanna go with you And if you die, I wanna die with you Take your hand and walk away The most loneliest day of my life The most loneliest day of my life The most loneliest day of my life. such a lonely day And it's mine It's a day that I'm glad I survived. -System of A Down

The lyrics to the song Lonely Day by system of a down relates to chapter two because the song describes depression, loneliness, and surving it. In chapter two the introduce the valley of ashes which is the same description of this song. The reason they even went to that part of "the egg" is because Tom wanted to show Nick his mistress. As you can see the valley of ashes branches off more important event that go one through out chapter two and this song describes the feeling, sight, and smell when you are in the valley of ashes.

Quotes:

  1. "the valley of ashes is bounded on one side by as small foul river, and the drawbridge is up to let barges" (28). This is aid by Nick and it describes how it smells and it's location is right where Tom's mistress lives. This is important to the chapter because now you know that Tom is seeing someone other than Daisy.

  2. "occasionally a line of grey cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghostly creak and comes to rest..." (27). This describes how depressing the valley of ashes are and why it's called that because it is gray, lonely, dusty, and abandoned like daisy felt with Tom.

  3. ".... immediately the ash-gray men swarm up with leaden spades and stir up an impenetrable cloud which screens their obscure operations from your sight" (27). This relates to the chapter because it describes how scummy it is and this is a perfect place where organized crime takes place.

  4. "about half way between west egg and new york the motor-road hastily joins the railroad and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile so as to shrink away from a certain desolate area of land" (27). This is said by Nick and it shows the description of the valley of ashes and where it is located between west egg and motor-road. It is like Nick's relation with Gatsby and Daisy relationship he is placed in the middle of it.

Summary:

The theme of chapter two is color and friendship. The reason i felt that was because everywhere they went or were was described with color. When Nick was in the valley of ashes it describes how dusty and the look of it. They introduce the valley of ashes in this chapter which is a very sketchy place. Also Nick is introduced to Tom's mistress which is a big part of the chapter. This shows that even though Nick is cousins with Daisy he still trust him. Trust in a relationship is a big thing so as they grow on each other so does their friendship. This shows that Nick is becoming more of a friend than before. tom and the rest treated Nick as someone to show their possessions to. But now they accepted him as a friend again and found more along the way. Out of friendship also comes love. Nick has gained a girlfriend named Jordan out of a simple relationship.

Chapter One

This picture shows a picture of a Yale University Football player. Both Nick, the narrator the the book and Tom, his cousins husband went to school together at Yale and were very great athletes. In the chapter they describe how great of football players they were. This is all described in the second chapter of The Great Gatsby.

Quotes: Chapter 1

"Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that not all people in this world have not had the advantages that you had" (5).

"reserving judgement is a matter of infinite hope" (7). This quote is said by our narrator Nick Caraway. In this quote he is telling the reader that you can try to refrain from judging people but it is unlikely that you will not do this.

"I hope she’ll be a fool—that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." This quote is said by Daisy this quote explains how she hopes her infant daughter will be. She is speaking this to Daisy and Jordan. This gives us an idea of Daisy's personality"(17).

"I know, Ive been everywhere and Ive seen everything and done everything...sophisticated. God im sophisticated" (22). This quote is said by Daisy as her child was just brought into the world. This again shows how Daisy's personality is. She appear to be very self absorbed.

Symbolism- In the first chapter in the book we see that there come about many differ ant references to color from the very beginning. It seems to be very confusing why he author, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses these color terms. As we read more toward the end of the chapter we can see that he uses these color references for differ ant characters in the novel. For example we learn that Toms color is red. Red can symbolize many different things. One thing that we came to a conclusion about is red is a very bold color. The color red relates to Toms personality, Toms has a very bold personality. Daisy seems to have differ ant colors that are used for her like white and blue. White seems to symbolize softness and elegance, and blue symbolizes sadness, depression and loneliness. Both colors symbolize Daisy's character. Gatsby's color in the chapter is gold and silver. Gold symbolizes wealth, power and dominance. These are all things that Gatsby has in his life. Silver represents boldness, weatlh, classiness and again power. Again things that his character portrays. The author does a great job using the symbolism of color to represent different main characters in the chapter. You will see many more references thoughthe course of this novel.
